Is your heart ready to worship?

by Erin Stringer

From this week's eNote...

So what does your preparation for church look like?  For some, it is a hectic time of rushing around, grumbling and arriving late to meet with God and His people. It often begins with hearts that aren’t really READY to worship.

For many years, the Israelites would sing (or recite) the Psalms as they walked the miles uphill to Jerusalem and the Temple.  These were called, “Psalms of Ascent” (or Songs of the Steps).  By doing this, they would arrive at the Temple with hearts already prepared and softened to worship and hear the Word of the Lord.  It seems like a good practice!  This weekend, we study the most famous of all of the Psalms of Ascent.

ONLINE CHURCH — Particularly on a holiday weekend, don’t forget that we have online worship available.  (Karin and I attended two services from Israel on my iPad several months ago.) This is a great option when you are away to not feel disconnected from your church.  Just go to our website a few minutes before any of the three services and click on the LIVE button that will appear in the upper left corner of your screen.  It’s pretty simple but can be very powerful!

RADIO BROADCAST — Did you know that our weekend sermons are on the radio?  Every Sunday morning at 8 a.m., the message from the previous weekend at ECC is aired on BOTT Radio, 100.1 FM.  If you miss services on a weekend, you can catch up before attending services on any Sunday.

THIS WEEKEND...
We move to the third Psalm of our study — number 126.  Although most American Christians would not know this Psalm, it is very popular among the people of Israel.  This Psalm is recited every Friday evening to help begin the Sabbath and to remember God’s blessings.  I think you’ll enjoy studying this short yet meaningful Psalm.
