Form Your Own Small Group
Relationships matter. Incredible growth can happen in small group contexts. Finding a group of people to come alongside you in your walk with the Lord and grow with you through prayer, study, service, and friendship is an important part of a believer’s life.
Find your people. Look around you. Who are the people you see consistently as your pick up your child from class on a Sunday morning or drop off your youth to Sunday night programming? What about the couple from church that you see walking in your neighborhood or the woman in the lobby that you see attending the women’s events frequently?
These are natural points of connection and can be a great springboard for a small group. Step out and introduce yourself. Get to know them. Invite them to dinner, suggest attending the next ECC event together, or sit together in worship service. Start small but look to build relationships naturally with those that are already around you.
Then, as you get to know one another — and assuming the relationship is growing — take that next step. Suggest meeting more regularly and ask others you’re getting to know to join you!
What is a small group? Consider a small group a mini version of the church. It is a small gathering of individuals that commit to meeting regularly and spending time Pursuing God together, Praying for and with one another, Preparing through the study of God’s Word and Participating in God’s Kingdom work.
What does that look like practically?
We suggest groups…
- Meet twice a month. Getting to know one another and living life alongside each other is an essential component of groups. Too much time between meetings can create distance and disconnect.
- Commit to confidentiality among members. Trust is an important part of these growing relationships.
- Pray for one another regularly, both corporately (together) and on your own.
- Study God’s Word together. This can happen in many ways. If you need a place to start, consider discussing the weekly sermon or jumping on RightNow Media to find a study.
- Commit to serving one another and encouraging each other in serving the church and the community.
